Overview Not Just Curries

Discover Not Just Curries, an Indian restaurant formerly located at 66 Wigram St, Harris Park NSW 2150, Australia, in the heart of Sydney’s vibrant “Little India” precinct. Known for presenting Indian cuisine as far more diverse than a collection of standard curries, the restaurant built its reputation around regional recipes, tandoor cooking, street-food snacks, biryanis, vegetarian specialties, and richly spiced home-style dishes. Not Just Curries in Harris Park became a familiar destination for families, groups, and diners interested in authentic local dining experiences. Current listings indicate that the venue has since closed under this name and the address now operates as Simply Indian.

The Delhi Style Butter Chicken was one of its defining dishes. Unlike sweeter, cream-heavy versions, this preparation emphasized tomato, cashew, butter, warming spices, and a noticeable touch of heat. Food writers particularly praised its more complex character, with cardamom, cloves, ginger, and other aromatics giving the sauce greater depth. It paired naturally with Garlic Naan or flaky Lachha Paratha, making it an excellent introduction to the kitchen’s philosophy.

Chicken 65 was another popular choice, especially as a starter. The chicken was known for a boldly seasoned exterior and juicy centre, offering a sharper, spicier contrast to the richer curries. Dahi Puri also earned enthusiastic feedback: crisp shells filled with cooling yogurt, chutneys, and lively sweet-tangy flavors created the kind of textural contrast that makes Indian street food so appealing. Customer reviews repeatedly identified these small plates among the restaurant’s strongest orders.

For a substantial main, Goat Curry showcased slow-cooked meat with onions, tomatoes, garlic, ginger, and traditional spices. Reviewers often highlighted the tenderness of the goat, while Lamb Rogan Josh, Daal Makhni, Kadai Paneer, Palak Paneer, and biryanis expanded the selection for mixed groups. Menu pricing typically placed mains in the A$20–A$40 dining range, while breads such as Garlic Naan were around A$5 and Keema Naan around A$8.

The atmosphere matched Harris Park’s energetic dining scene. Indoor and outdoor seating, colourful evening surroundings, and a casual yet comfortable dining room made the restaurant suitable for family dinners and group celebrations. Takeaway, delivery, bookings, wheelchair access, Wi-Fi, and vegetarian choices were among its practical amenities. Diners frequently praised the friendly service and generous portions, although occasional complaints mentioned delays during busy periods.

Desserts such as Gulab Jamun, Rasmalai, and Kulfi provided a traditional finish, with pistachio kulfi offering a particularly refreshing contrast after spicy dishes.

Among the memorable Indian restaurants in Harris Park, Not Just Curries earned its following through regional variety, balanced spices, and dishes that went beyond predictable takeaway staples. Its Delhi-style butter chicken, Chicken 65, and traditional goat preparations remain strong examples of what made the restaurant distinctive within Sydney’s celebrated Indian dining district.

The food was beautiful. The flavours were superb, so well balanced and certainly not over spiced. The service was also excellent, with a wonderful education from our lovely waitress regarding the various styles of Indian food located on Wigram St, Harris Park (also known as “Little India”) We chose three mains. All superb with the standout being the Mushroom Matter. The serving sizes were generous. We ended up taking leftovers home as we were stuffed. Chicken Avadhi $25. Tender pieces of boneless chicken simmered over a slow fire in a rich sauce of cashew nut & almond. The dish was mild to medium on the “heat” Richter scale. Delicious! Pepper Masala Goat curry $27. A South Indian style curry prepared with tempered curry leaves and black pepper. My wife was hesitant as she is usually not fond of goat. She adored it. The meat was so tender with a divine texture, falling off the bone with very little fat. The dish was slightly hotter than the chicken, but not over spiced. Delicious! Mushroom Mattar $23. White button mushrooms & green peas in an onion and tomato based warm to medium spicy gravy. This was outstanding. Loved it, the flavours were brilliant. Delicious x 3! Not Just Curries has both indoor and outdoor dining. Fully licensed or BYO. (There is a bottle shop as you walk out of Harris Park Station) Harris Park train station is a 2-minute walk to Wigram St. Paramatta train station is an 8-minute walk. Dining in the evening is recommended as every restaurant tends to compete ensuring the establishments “Bollywood Lights” are brighter than the place next door. Thank You “Not Just Curries” for a fantastic feed.

I love this place... my Indian chef friends recommended it to us... especially the Chicken 65! But the whole menu is amazing and the staff super enthusiastic about the food. Having spent a lot of time in India, the food is authentic and the atmosphere fun... Harris Park... perfect! The only downside is the waiting times for take away: sometimes they say 10 minutes and it can be 30... small downside but none the less...

I went there with my family on a weekend for dinner, 2 adults and 2 kids. We had booked our table in advance to avoid any disappointment. Booking was straight through. We reached there on time and was warmly greeted. To our surprise no social distancing were there. Tables were arranaged so jam packed, we felt a bit insecure(just because of corona!). Food was good, but not the best. I read some rave reviews but the dishes we ordered didn't do much justice. I can guarantee you wont be disappointed in terms of taste or quantity for the rate they are charging. I planned to give 4 stars but reduced one because of the table arrangements. Like many other mentioned they suggested to pay by cash and told I will get a discount .I uswd their atm. It will charge you fees for withdrawal. But I couldnt find the discount in the bill( may be I heard wrong about the discount). Overall it was an "OK" experience for us not one of our best.

Excellent Indian restaurant in the heart of the little India in Sydney - Harris Park. Well priced and food was very tasty (especially the garlic naan and the spicy take on butter chicken). Decent drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) on offer. Staff were friendly and efficient - will definitely be back

Nice and warm atmosphere. A family was celebrating a member's 70th birthday. They have good cocktails, ciders and other mixers. All the food we ordered were great! - Palak paneer, butter chicken, dhaniya murgh, samosa, naan and paratha. I could not single out any one as a favourite!

Me and my husband came here to have dinner. We really enjoyed the food and drinks, but we have to wait quite a while for food. Luckily we were not much starving so we were happy to wait, but it was like 30mins. Usually we got served in another Indian restaurant less than 10 minutes. So that was a minus. Bonus point was great food. We had goat curry khalida tikka (sorry if I got it wrong), aloo baingan (eggplant and potato curry) as their recommendation and they were very yum. Elephant Calberg beer and pina colada we had were tasty! We spent $96 for our meal. It was $101 but you will have discount if you pay cash.
